Alabado House Pre-Columbian Art Museum
Alabado House Pre-Columbian Art Museum is a museum located in Quito, Ecuador, dedicated to pre-Columbian art. It was inaugurated on 11 April 2010.
The museum houses many works which are not simply archaeological. There are circular shapes, human representations, and animal figures on a variety of funeral urns, vessels, and metal utensils. Many evoke the vision of nature of the ancient cultures that populated Ecuador, such as the Valdivia (4000-1500 BC) and Chorrera (950 BC - 350 BC), who settled mainly in the areas of Santa Elena, Guayas and Los Rios; the Carchi–Pasto (750 AD to 1550 AD) of the northern Sierra of Ecuador; and The Tolita (350 BC to 350 AD), located mainly in the province of Esmeraldas and Napo in the Amazon.〔
The museum has 14 permanent exhibition halls, one temporary exhibition hall, 2 rooms for educational development, a store, a coffee shop and 2 patios, as well as a customer service area.
Hours: Tuesday to Saturday from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. Sunday and Monday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.〔
